Artist Statement

“You don’t want someone to love you because of your body, and you don’t want someone to love you despite your body, you want someone to love you and your body.”

The primary inspiration for my work comes from my own body and the fat experience—the effect my fatness has on my actions and therefore my experiences.   I like to think about the desire for indulgence, taking in physical cravings that have shaped my physical form; my body then becomes an intimate indulgence for someone else due to their craving for the fat form.

My current work focuses on the sexual lives of fat women and their willingness or unwillingness to be seen as a sexual object. I have created pieces that have shock value. Using highly sexual images and bold color, the viewer is drawn in to focus on the naked fat body in a provocative situation or sexual position—an aspect of the fat life that fat people are taught to keep hidden. By forcing people to look at what is socially deemed shocking, I have essentially made fat sexual experiences more normative.

I don’t want someone to accept I am fat; I want them to crave my fatness.
